Electromagnetic fields

Electro-magnetic radiation has substantially increased over the last decades. Sources of non-ionising electro magnetic fields (EMF) include computers, mobile phones and masts, power lines, wifi devices, amongst others.

EEG develops and validates GIS-based models to predict electromagnetic radiation exposure for epidemiological studies. We also do extensive validation of these models by conducting field measurements, for example, around mobile phone masts and power lines.

Projects:

  • Mobile Phone MASTS

Developing and validating a GIS-based exposure model based on mobile phone mast power output, antenna height, tilt and the surrounding propagation environment.

  • Powerlines

Developing a GIS-based model to estimate long-term address-level exposures to corona ions within 600 meters of high voltage overhead power lines in England and Wales (1974 to 2008), accounting for the frequency of wind directions.
